My Amazing Two-Day Safari at Ngorongoro and Tarangire National Park
The Ultimate Safari Escape in Tanzania

This two-day safari in Ngorongoro and Tarangire National Park is for you if you’ve ever wanted to see elephants lumbering under old baobab trees or a pride of lions in golden grasslands. I just started this trip, and it was nothing short of spectacular.
Let’s talk about everything you need to know, from seeing animals in the wild and the best things to do in the park to staying in style at Escarpment Luxury Lodge. I hope my experience helps you image yourself in Tanzania, whether you’re planning your first safari or adding it to your bucket list.
Why go on a two-day safari in Tanzania?
It can be hard to plan a safari. Should you go for a week? One month? But even if you only have a little time, you can see Tanzania’s amazing wildlife, scenery, and hospitality in just two days.
This plan is great if:
- You want to see the Big Five in a short amount of time.
- You’re going on a safari and then doing other things in Tanzania, including going to Zanzibar, climbing Kilimanjaro, and going on cultural excursions.
- You like things that are comfortable and work well.
In just two days, I saw elephants, lions, buffalo, hippos, and rhinos, all set against beautiful natural scenery. Let’s go over the trip step by step.
Day 1: Visiting Tarangire National Park
A Place with Big Trees and Giants
We first went to Tarangire National Park, which is noted for its huge elephant populations and strange baobab trees. It’s a hidden gem with a lot of different things to see, even though it’s typically overshadowed by Serengeti or Ngorongoro.
The landscape changed from acacia woods to wide savannahs with famous baobab trees as we drove in. It felt like going back in time to see elephants go by these old trees.
Fun fact: Tarangire is home to one of the largest groups of elephants in East Africa.
Seeing animals in Tarangire
Our guide was great; they saw animals that I would have missed on my own.
Some of the best parts were:
- Elephants walking in a line on the dusty road
- Brightly colored kingfishers sat on top of riverbeds.
- Eagles flying high above in a circle
- Zebras eating grass and vervet monkeys having fun
I was impressed by more than just the animals. The park had a calm, less touristic ambiance that made our game drives seem personal and private.
The Ideal Lunch Stop on a Safari
We stopped for lunch at a beautiful picnic spot in the midst of the day. It’s nice to dine while looking out over the savannah and knowing that animals are close by.
Our driver-guide told us information about the park’s past and how it is being protected, which made the visit more interesting.
Day 2: Into the Heart of Ngorongoro Crater
A geological wonder and a place for wildlife
On the second day, we went to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where the famous Ngorongoro Crater is. The crater floor is a wildlife paradise that is cut off from the rest of the world because an old volcano fell down.
It was amazing to go down into the crater at sunrise. As we went down the high walls, the panorama opened up to show us wide pastures, glistening lakes, and herds of animals far away.
The Big Five in One Day
Ngorongoro is one of the greatest spots in Africa to see all five of the Big Five in one day:
Lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard (but they are rare, so don’t hold your breath!)
Before lunch, we were lucky enough to see four of them. Seeing a pride of lions relaxing in the sun was one of the best things for me.
Other memorable things to see were:
- Hippos rolling around in pools
- Flamingos making the soda lakes pink
- Ostriches walking around the plains
- The crater has a sense of drama and majesty that is hard to describe.
Staying at the Escarpment Luxury Lodge

A Place to Relax After the Adventure
After spending dusty, exciting days on wildlife drives, going back to Escarpment Luxury Lodge felt like a real treat.
The resort was on the brink of the Great Rift Valley and had amazing views of the sunset over the escarpment. The large rooms with rustic-chic decor and separate patios made us feel like we were really in nature without giving up comfort.
Some of the best things about my visit were:
- Having a drink and relaxing on the terrace as the sun went down
- Staff that was friendly and paid attention to us made us feel at home.
- The open-air dining area serves tasty meals that are influenced by the surroundings.
- If you want to pamper yourself after long days on safari, I can’t suggest it enough.
Useful tips for your two-day safari
Here are some useful things I’ve learned that you should think about before you pack your bags:
- Timing: The greatest time to see animals is during the dry season, which lasts from June to October.
- Clothes: Wear layers of neutral hues for cold mornings.
- Sunscreen, a hat, binoculars, and a camera with a zoom lens are all must-haves.
- Booking: Use a well-known safari operator; ours took care of everything without a hitch.
- Planning well makes a big difference, even if you just have two days.
In conclusion, this safari was one to remember
My two-day safari in Tarangire and Ngorongoro wasn’t just a holiday; it seemed like I was in a wild, amazing planet. I can still see elephants framed by old baobabs and lions lying on the crater bottom.
If you’re thinking about going on a short safari in Tanzania, I say go for it. You’ll have stories to tell and a new love for the wild places on Earth when you depart.
